Owl Chalet - Cabin at 8500' near Black Hawk, Nederland & Eldora

We had a lovely stay at the Owl Chalet. It was definitely a quirky place, but it was very spacious and comfortable. We stayed nice and warm during the cold, windy nights, and it was right down the road from delicious wood-fired pizza. Highly recommend.

Clara's place was an idyllic Airbnb in the middle of a quiet sleepy town. Very beautiful surroundings and a nice place to get away from a busy city life and stay near nature. Netherland is the closest place for groceries. The Airbnb itself was very well done with plenty of space for 5+ people! Well equipped and also a good place to work remotely from! The location is great! Within an hour of almost everything. Drive to Nederland is super quick and easy. The wrap around balcony off of master bedroom was worth all of it! Communication with the host was always fast and easy. Plenty of room but maintained the coziness we were looking for. We are so happy we chose to stay here!

We really enjoyed our stay. Especially the pizza restaurant TOSS and brewery at the cross roads in Rollinsville a 5 min. walk away. The cabin was cozy and had all the appropriate amenities. It doesn't have A/C but cools off in the nights and there are lots of windows and fans. We found we were centrally located between Rocky Mountain National Park, Black/Hawk/Central City/Idaho Springs, Boulder and a little closer to Roosevelt National Park, Golden Gate Canyon Stat Park so there was lots to do, hiking, biking, horseback riding

The property was as advertised, but located very close to other run down properties and a long drive from anything else. The house had the amenities advertised, the only difficulties were 1. no a/c upstairs, generally not a problem I imagine, but we were there the hottest days of the year and not all of the windows upstairs had screens so we could open for ventilation. The doors in the master/ screens were either off the track or very hard to open except one. Shower upstairs had doors off the track and no water pressure. This is a very nice stay but not "luxury" for sure. The owner couldnt be nicer and the communicaion we had was just right.

Clara was very responsive to our needs and the dwelling was what we needed for our stay. We enjoyed morning coffee on the adirondack chairs on the front patio, and the entire house was cozy but still felt spacious, with different nooks to relax in. The house is older and "rustic" as described, and fits in well with the overall rustic-ness of Rollinsville and surrounding areas, but it's evident that work has been done to update it and make it as comfortable as possible. We appreciated that it was pet friendly and very accessible to Nederland, Blackhawk and hiking -- a nice place to land after mountain adventures.

The place was clean and functional. The kitchen appliances are only on a small long ledge in the dining room, microwave wobbled and coffee maker is not able to set up safely. In the kitchen area there are no outlets by any of the counters. We ordered out as this did not seem a great kitchen to cook in. There is a very large dining room table that was very nice and we played games on. The living room is very spacious. There is no air conditioning. 2 of the bedrooms have windows and fans which kept it nice. The 3rd bedroom is small with no windows so it stayed a bit warm. We did nothing outside as the deck is extremely worn and very close neighbors.

Absolutely loved our stay at the Owl Chalet! The chalet is just a stone's throw away from fantastic hiking trails and within easy walking distance to Toss Wood-fired Pizza and Howling Wind Brewery—perfect for a leisurely evening after a day outdoors. The property was older than the pictures made it appear but it was stated that it was an older house. It was not stated that there is no air conditioning in the house which may be common in that area but it was a little warm at night. That being said it was a cozy house. It has everything you need while on vacation and the scenery was amazing once you got beyond the neighbors with the junk cars parked everywhere. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

We loved our stay at the Owl Chalet! The views were incredible and the house was very comfortable. We made use of the awesome kitchen and enjoyed having the screened windows open in the evening. Even in mid-June it got a bit chilly at night so no need for AC which was a welcome change for us! Some reviews mentioned a steep driveway, but to clarify, it's the road up to the property that is a bit steep. However, we had no trouble getting up it in our van, and the parking area is flat so it was easy to unload bags straight into the house. I would not want to go up the hill with a trailer or camper in the snow, but that's just me. Overall, we greatly enjoyed our stay and would recommend for a short summer getaway!

The area is beautiful! Only about 30 mins from the city but so quiet and close to numerous hikes of all levels of difficulty. There’s something for everyone. Check in and out was super easy and we were all very comfortable in this cute little cabin in the woods.

This cabin was perfect for our family of 5 plus a dog! We loved it. Beds were very comfortable, house was well-maintained and stocked. I really loved that there was only one TV which was in the main family room. I always bring our own food and cook when we go on trips to get away. Kitchen was great; loved the picnic table positioned in the extended room facing the glass sliding door. We spotted a handsome fox in the yard while eating dinner. We enjoyed seeing deer and a moose strolling/grazing in the front yard area during our stay as well! Neighbors were quiet and didn't see them much, but it is a cluttered sort of area as you drive up the hill to the Owl Chalet. Once you're situated inside, it doesn't matter. The birch trees hadn't sprouted their leaves yet (mid-May) so I would think that those provide a much more private/hidden away feel in the summer. Plenty of nice trails close by and other cute towns. Great communication with the owner. We appreciate owners like this one!

It was the perfect home for our family. All the positive feed backs on the house was on point. There’s not a negative thing about it. It was clean and beautiful! It was cosy and inviting. After a long day of skiing, we cold hide away and cook or we could go across the street for pizzas and drinks. The locals were super friendly and nice. This home was perfect for our week long stay during thanksgiving break! Great cookware, utensils, washer, dryer, beds and bedding. Plenty of space for everyone to move around and have privacy. As others have mentioned, it’s unique and has tons of little quirky details we found interesting. We traveled with our dogs and the small fenced in backyard was perfect for potty and play time. The neighbors have dogs and we’re super friendly. There are a few neighbors around, however the homes are far enough apart it still felt private. The location was perfect for us. It’s close to hiking, skiing, coffee shop, book store, small grocery store and necessities shops. It’s about 45 minutes to Boulder with a beautiful drive along the way. If I had to give any advice for someone looking to stay, there are stairs to get to all the bedrooms. The parking area is not attached to the home and is up on top a small hill. To get to the front door you must go down a few stairs. So maybe not ideal for someone who needs walking assistance with a walker or wheelchair. One shower upstairs and a small bathtub/shower downstairs. We did need additional towels, so we had to wash them frequently. We were able to all pile up and watch movies in the living room. There’s also a lounge area near the kitchen you can visit with everyone while cooking. The owner was amazing and had great communication. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. We will be staying here again!!!!

Really enjoyed our stay at the Owl Chalet! The quaint nestling of the autumnal surroundings, proximity to great sunrises, warmth of the abode, and surprising spaciousness made this a great retreat for our family. It situated well for quick drives to Nederland as well as further jaunts to Estes; even without a packed agenda we enjoyed bunkering down in the multiple spaces, whether the reading nook, family room, ample dining area and more. Aptly suited us, our three younger kiddos, and our tiny dog. Clara was accommodating, responsive, and explained everything well enough for me to manage. Will definitely consider this place again for our shorter-range adventures!

This well equipped house in Rollinsville made a great home base from which to explore the area. So many great outdoor activities within a short drive, we only wished we had more time to see and do more. The three bedrooms with big beds plus a well equipped kitchen (thanks so much for the complete spice rack!) was perfect for parents plus sons with wives. Make sure you get your groceries beforehand as the peace and solitude also mean a bit of a distance to a market. I would rather be close to a trout stream than a Safeway any day, though. The brewery, distillery and pizza place a short 3-5 minute walk down the road was a pleasant surprise for the young adults. All in all, highly recommended and will look for a return option next time we visit our kiddos in Denver.

Unique & VERY clean cabin located close to Boulder & mountain towns. Nederland is less than 10 min away and has great restaurants & views. Second floor with bedrooms gets a bit warm in Summer (need to leave sliders open overnight for cooler air) but overall we had a great stay & had everything we needed. We had 4 teens/young adults with us (6 total) and had plenty of space.

Great furniture and decor. Cute and quaint, free of clutter, beautiful views! Stylishly remodeled! Nice space in yard for kids to play and roam and even a portion is fenced for dogs. Courteous and responsive hosts! Bones of the house were a bit rough. The squeakiest stairs and upstairs floor that I've ever walked on. Very poor airflow with broken fan in smallest bedroom and no window. Worried about slivers for kiddos on very unfinished deck. Lots of weeds and unkempt landscaping (though I kinda liked the wildness of it). Initially there weren't enough towels/washcloths to accommodate for our children, but that was quickly addressed when pointed out.

I would say it was a good stay/location to all of our activities during a girls trip. Just a couple notes: We arrived after dark during a downpour, so I had trouble finding the place since there were absolutely no lights on in the house and the road is dark. As stated in the listing, non-AT&T cell coverage is limited, so I tried to prepare by downloading offline maps. However, since I had no signal, I was not able to message the host for guidance when we were having some trouble finding it. Just know that if you reach a gate, you've gone too far lol. I think a solar light on the "owl post", a porch light and/or a living room light would have helped a lot. The listing does mention the house is a "1950s cabin with some quirky features" so I can't say we weren't warned. Just be aware that some "quirks" include four small doors that lead to in-wall crawl spaces upstairs in one of the bedrooms and in the loft. No one wanted to stay in that bedroom because we were creeped out.

Clara is super responsive. She provides clear instructions, a ton of local recommendations, and the house is furnished with all necessary basics. I wish I could give a 4.5 star review. The reasons for not providing the full 5 stars are listed below. These reasons may not bother you, and if that is the case, 5 stars indeed! 1. The pictures are a bit generous. 2. The house has several close neighbors, including a commune. The neighbors at the commune are friendly and non-obtrusive. This is clearly outlined in the welcome packet. I just wish this situation had been described in the listing. 3. Two of the three bedrooms need blackout curtains, badly. Unless you enjoy waking when the sun rises.

The 3 bedrooms and 2 baths plus all the other room inside and out were very comfortable and welcoming. The home is in a quiet neighborhood in Rollinsville just 10 min south of Nederland. Rollinsville has a coffee shop, brewery and pizza oven ride down the road from the house (check the operating hours of those businesses though - they are not open some days). The house is perfect for 6 people. It has more than adequate kitchen equipment and room to cook. The towels are quite nice and the beds were comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!

We enjoyed our stay, but the place wasn't as cosily furnished as the photos might suggest–some parts of the cabin felt unfurnished, the door was missing from a kitchen cabinet, and there was a boot hole in one of the doors. The floors also needed a thorough mop. The place was very functional and the kitchen was well stocked. We really liked the coffee shop and brewery across the road and it was great to be able to walk there in the mornings.

Our toddler ended up getting sick so we actually couldn’t stay the whole time which was a bummer because it was lovely! Clara was very responsive when we needed help with the furnace. It still stayed very cold in one of the upstairs rooms (to the right of the stairs upstairs) though even when the rest of the rooms were warm.

This cabin is exactly like the pictures. It was a perfect getaway for us. Place, amenities, everything was perfect. Clara is the best host n is easily reachable through message. Clara’s pet friendly Owl Chalet in Rollinsville was brilliant, great value for the money and wonderfully convenient location with amazing mountain views! The house was clean and welcoming, beds were comfy and the shower was great, added bonuses were the provided shampoo/conditioner/soap. The full kitchen had all the items you would need to cook, was very clean and well presented. Short walk down the hill to a fun coffee shop/brewery, and a short drive to "Ned" which is an awesome historic mountain town with several shops, grocery stores, restaurants and more breweries! Clara was thoughtful and prompt in communication, provided good local tips and recommendations. This was a great stay and would recommend it to anyone.

My (now) husband and I chose this Airbnb as part of our elopement and mini-moon trip. Clara made everything so easy to accomplish. Communication was awesome, the home itself was sweet, well decorated, cozy and just what we needed for our trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! As Texans it was a paradise away from the brutal heat and the lovely mountains were just breathtaking. We don’t like big crowds and Rollinsville is a small town . It was hard to find a place with 2 full bathrooms. The Owl Chalet has a fairly big bathroom upstairs and a smaller bathroom downstairs. The beds were comfortable and the linens were very nice. We don’t go out to eat much, so we really appreciated the nice Weber grill. Nederland is a quaint town 3 miles away and we enjoyed some delicious brick oven pizza and craft beer at Crosscut Pizzeria. On the way to have our pizza, we spotted a bull moose and watched this beautiful animal eat a snack. We made day trips to Brainard Lake which is 30 minutes away and RMNP which is about an hour away . It was the perfect hub for these excursions and the Moffatt tunnel down the road was a nice hike to Crater Lake. We wished we could have stayed longer which is always a good sign. We had a great stay here - the description is accurate and the chalet has plenty of room for everyone. There was new kitchenware and a nice dining area inside as well as plenty of seating outside on the porch and balcony. Older folks or people with impaired vision should be careful since there are small step-downs from one room to another. Wifi was strong, and the location was beautiful and easy for accessing hiking and the town of Nederland.

This cabin made an excellent home base for an awesome family vacation. You are within an hour of everything. The quirky layout of the cabin has great communal areas for meals and and TV, but enough rooms and corners for all 6 of us to have a little privacy to wind down. It's an older home in a tiny town - so if you want perfect crown molding and even floors next to other same-looking cabins, this might not be the place for you. If you want a quiet, roomy chalet where you can see a moose walking in your front yard...this is the place to be. Nederland and Rollinsville are super cute towns with good dining options. Clara is an excellent host and very responsive. Thanks for helping us make great memories.

This place was adorable, spacious, super clean, and Clara was there to help with any of our needs the whole stay. There were so many little things that were included while we were there that really make the stay that much better. Nederland was the cutes little mountain town with plenty of hiking. Ned's restaurant was delicious and Clara provides her picks for favorite restaurants, hiking, ect. Plus it is 30 minutes to Blackhawk or Boulder and an hour to Denver and Estes Park. We loved our stay there!

Clara has a very nice place and great setup. She’s very responsive and her checkout instructions are simple. The desk with monitor was very helpful and the kitchen and dining place is nice. We didn’t care much for the location and not much to do at night. Make sure to get frozen food or left overs if you want to eat past 9pm. However, the house was great!

We had an incredible stay. The beds were comfortable, bathrooms clean and the area was stunning. We were close enough to enjoy Rollinsville and all the restaurants, breweries and shops in the area, while staying just far enough of out of the town to enjoy the peace and quiet of the remote area. Highly recommend checking out Howling Wind for your morning cup of coffee and early evening brew

Very spacious, clean and well stocked. The house had everything we needed, even snowshoes and hiking poles. We loved our stay here and Clara was a great host.

We had a great stay. Close to everything and easy to get to. The house was clean and spacious. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware, utensils, dishes, and a grill. Everything we needed to cook meals. The beds and pillows were super comfy.

Thanks for a wonderful stay! Great location and close proximity to good snowshoeing and Nederland. The coffee shop and brewery across the road are a must visit!

My friends and I had a lovely stay in this home. The 6 of us all fit comfortably, it was exactly as advertised, and it was all clean and ready for our use. The location was just what we wanted- a quick drive to Eldora and Nederland, and easy access to the backcountry for skiing. There was a brewery and coffee shop down the street that was perfect for unwinding after a day of skiing. Clara and Ryan were super communicative and helpful throughout, and were extremely committed to being the best hosts possible. If you’re thinking of staying here, definitely do it- it was awesome.

A perfect cabin for a mountain getaway that is just a short ride away from Denver/Boulder. Clara & Ryan were extremely responsive from beginning to end. Directions were easy to follow and concise. The location is perfect for getting out to Eldora (and Ned) for skiing, hiking, and snowshoeing. WiFi was fast and worked flawlessly, which kids and grown-ups both really appreciated. The cabin was very well stocked with all necessary cooking/eating supplies, bedding, blankets, towels, etc. There were plenty of hooks for hanging wet clothes (after playing in the snow). We would certainly stay here again!
